
These are common characterstics seen in Schizoid personality disorder;
- Apathetic, indifferent, remote, solitary, distant, humorless, contempt, odd fantasies
- Neither desire nor need human attachments. Withdrawn from relationships and prefer to be alone
- Little interest in others, often seen as a loner
- They are extremely socially isolated. They prefer to engage in solitary, often intellectual, activities, such as computer games or puzzles.
Minimal awareness of the feelings of themselves or others. Few drives or ambitions, if any. Is an uncommon condition in which people avoid social activities and consistently shy away from interaction with others.
It affects more males than females. To others, they may appear somewhat dull or humorless. Because they don’t tend to show emotion, they may appear as though they don’t care about what’s going on around them.
Treatment :-
Persons with schizoid personality disorder, rarely seek treatment. They do not wish to built therapeutic relationship also. Usually they are brought for treatment by others.
Insight oriented psychotherapy, supportive therapy will help them. Inanimate bridges, like writing and artistic production helps to ease the patient into therapy relationship.
Later cognitive – behavioural approach helps them to gradually increase the social involvement. Lastly group therapy may also facilitate the development of social skills and improvement in relationship.
