Whenever you talk to teachers, they usually complaints about 4-5 children’s poor academic performance in each class. In them we can find children with pure learning disabilities. Learning disabilities as comorbid state of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism, other developmental disorders. So the awareness about this learning disabilities is very much needed for teachers, pediatricians, parents and also grandparents.
Then what is this learning disabilities?
Child with learning disabilities appears to be normal in most ways, when we compared with other children of their age and class. But they may have difficulties when come to learning or recalling the concepts, especially academic portions.
Some examples…
they may have-
• problem in reading/understanding
• problem in copying /writing
• problem with concentration
• problem with recalling
• problem with numerical
Many of these children trying hard to read and write, but unable to understand letters, words or numerical.
• School becomes challenging for these kids.
• These children will have average or above average intelligence.
• Their eyesight and hearing will be normal.
• They will not be physically, mentally or emotionally challenged kids.
• They only exhibits problems with reading, writing, calculation, speaking or focused listening.
• Mainly their problem is language when compare two non-language areas.
When we take history, teachers identifies a child with learning disabilities at preschool level only. But due to lack of knowledge about learning disabilities they label it it as immature, low interest, hyperactive, slow….. list continues. result becomes punishment, neglect, ignorance, overburdening, pressuring child as well as parents. Because of all these circumstances child starts to show behavioral problems, as child moves up in educational level.

• poor social skills
• poor vocabulary
• aggression
• introvert
• co-ordination problem
• disorganized lifestyle
• unable to understand bullying
• faces difficulty in learning simple task
• academic results vary always
The specific learning disabilities is a complicated term, that refers to a heterogeneous group of disorders. In simple words we can say, a child with learning disabilities may have difficulty in reading, writing, listening, speaking, reasoning or doing mathematics or in social skills after providing every possible environment as other normal child gets. Child also shows average above average intelligence. No history of major health issues. Another point is usually a child with learning disabilities is approximately shows discrepancy of two years younger to their age group.
